Swims start from 7:30am on race day. You’ll find your personal swim time on the race website 3 days

helps ensure that you are swimming with other triathletes at your pace. You’ll need to be at poolside
at least 15 minutes before your start time.
Will there be refreshments?
Water will be available on the run, and we’ll have tea, coffee and food to purchase by the finish area

Can I wear a wetsuit / buoyancy shorts / Fins / Paddles?
Buoyancy Shorts, Wetsuits, Calf guards are not permitted for two reasons:
- They will be make you overheat, the water will be warm enough and if you want to put a top on in the rest zone to keep warm that is okay.
- They will give you an un-fare advantage over your participants and therefore will not be allowed. If you have a medical/disability reason then the please get in touch and we will consider it.
Swimming aids including paddles, fins, floats, tow floats, pull bouys, bands are not permitted.
How does the timing work?
When you arrive you will be given an envelope with a few bits in
- Timing chip and band
- Wrist Band for Parents
You will wear your timing chip ( location tbc) and when you are called to start in number order. This order is an approximate seeding based on your 400m pace.
Once in the timing zone you time starts so don't hand around, you can climb/jump in and then proceed to on your swim. you will swim up and down 20 lengths ( 1000m) ducking under the lane ropes as you go and when you get out the other end the time will stop. once you exit this zone the clock "stops" until you enter the start zone. Repeat 1, 3, 5 or 10 times till you have completed the event.
The total time is the time you spend swimming, you can spend as much time in the recovery zone as you like however you have 4 hours to complete the swim.
Medical withdraw during the event
This is an extreme exercise and there will be lifeguards and first aiders on site. if you are injured/fatigued you may be medically withdrawn for your own safety. We will not take this decision lightly, you have the right to object and it will be noted at the time and a final decision will be made by the medical team. Whilst this review is under way you cannot enter the water.
If you are deemed to safe to carry on then you may do so.
How does the overtaking work?
You should overtake when safe to do so, please ensure the person in front of you is aware you are overtaking ( gentle tap on the feet to let them know you are there) and wait till the end of the length.
You should also consider when you start the aspect of pacing you you should be able to identify windows when you can put some pace in un-impeded. This might mean waiting a few minutes :-)
In future years we will look to extend the session and have race and participation sessions
What strokes are permitted?
Butterfly and backstroke are NOT permitted.
Front crawl and Breast stroke ARE permitted and Front Crawl is strongly encouraged.
Can I drop down a distance during the event?
If you start a distance and quit at the 3, 5, markers then you will be moved that event. if you swim past and drop out then you can only claim the marker.
E.g. if you enter the 5 and swim 4 you will get the recognition of the 3km and your 4th km will be removed from the results.
Can you track the swim?
We will have large-ish TV screen on the poolside which will display the progress ( just in case you forget or loose count) this should also be streamed on Facebook life (hopefully). There will also be the usual live results on www.stuweb.co.uk
I want to swim a longer event than my age allows?
This is possible but you will need an adult to sign a waiver for you.. We recommend sticking to your correct distances.
Whats on poolside?
Toilets, access to water, we will have electrolytes tabs available for you add to bottles as it will get warm as well as some snacks and nibbles, these will be provided by our nutrition partner and will form gels, flapjacks and maybe some cakes.
Are there any prizes?
This is the first event and we expect some challenges and logistics that will need to be learned. As such we will be dropping some spot prizes throughout the day. There are from :
- Scimitar sports
- Kitbrix

Is Photography allowed?
This will be discussed closer to the date. We will be filming some event footage as we go and this will be used to promote the event in future years. If you don't want to be filmed we will work to identify you using wrist bands. We will have some cameras located under the water for filming.
